Are you a manager?
Are you a leader with responsibility in the workplace?
If so, how do we become better leaders.
Continuous improvement is a core part of management philosophy.
How does that work in practice...here's how to become a better leader for your employees
đ¶ïž Lead by example. It's simple, if you set the rules, be sure to follow them yourselves. You lose instant credibility if you are seen to be above the law.
đ¶ïž Maintain your integrity. It's very easy to slip in the odd half-truth about work related issues. However, your top talent will sniff this out pretty quickly. Be transparent, & build trust.
đ¶ïž Appreciate your employees, but really mean it. This make take some work if it does not come natural to you. DO NOT fake it, again, employees can see through shallow recognition.
đ¶ïž Create a culture of innovation, contribution & new ideas. There is no quicker way of demotivating a team than continually stonewalling their ideas. Create an open, safe space for dialogue.
đ¶ïž Communicate, communicate, communicate. You need to tell your team your expectations, you need to give your team feedback. They cannot read your mind. Be clear & concise about the details.
đ¶ïž Manage your team based on individual traits. A little controversial, however, if you have more sensitive employees, you may need to adjust your approach.
đ¶ïž Champion personal development. This benefits you, the team & the individual. New skills & growth will benefit everybody. Do not let employees stagnate, otherwise they will be looking elsewhere.
đ¶ïž Be decisive. Nobody likes a leader who is unsure about their decisions & slow to act. Collect all the information, assess the situation, look at your options & take action
đ¶ïž Be flexible. Life is not rigid, so why do you expect your employees to be so. Things happens, things need to be done. As long as work is completed on time & to good standards, allow flexibility within some set parameters.
đ¶ïž Be empathetic. You need to put yourself in your employees shoes & really feel where they are coming from. Do not be unrealistic & be sure to be supportive as much as possible.
đ¶ïž Employee engagement. You need to keep your employees mentally stimulated. Get them involved in senior meetings, challenge them with important work. Get them thinking.
đ¶ïž Take their wellbeing seriously. I cannot emphasize this enough. If you dont care about them, one day they will stop caring about you & the team.
Leadership does not come naturally to everybody, but if you do have it, make sure you do it well!
